Benjamin
Mathews and Sarae live in Florida, USA. He was 69 when he was diagnosed on October
2, 2007. His initial PSA was 14.0 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 7 and although
he does not state his staging, it seems that he would have been staged T1c . His
choice of treatment was Da Vinci Robotic Surgery. Here is his story.
I
had a routine lab test for a life insurance policy that showed my PSA was a 14.0
ng/ml. This prompted an immediate visit to the Urology department at the MAYO
clinic. After the biopsy, it was recommended that I undergo surgery which I did.
Because I am a marathon runner and have kept myself in excellent shape,
it was "easy" for my doctor to do what he had to do. My recovery has been going
well. It's been 5 weeks since the surgery and I'm running three miles and swimming
thirty minutes every day.
For new guys who are reading this: forewarned
is forearmed! It hurts big time to have the biopsy and then again to have the
catheter removed. I almost went through the roof! The gas pains after the surgery
are no picnic either. We were not prepared for any of this even though we asked
the doctors and nurses lots of questions.
