Tim Thompson lives in Missouri, USA. He was 54 when he was diagnosed in May, 2010. His initial PSA was 3.50 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 6, and he was staged T1c. His initial treatment choice was External Beam Radiation (Proton Beam) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2019 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

Hello, my name is Tim. I am from St Louis Mo. I was diagnosed May of this year (2010). My father had prostate cancer so I have been watching my PSA for the past 10+ years. It has always been normal in the 3.2-3.7 range. This year my PMD suggested I see a urologist because of my family history. When I did he suggested a biopsy because my PSA's were in the higher limits of normal and the positive family history. I had two positive biopsies out of twelve. Both were Gleason 3+3.

I did a lot of research into treatment, and decided on proton therapy at M.D. Anderson. I am currently in my 7th of 8 weeks of treatment. I chose proton therapy because of the minimal side effects, specifically the lack of ED problems. Side effects have been very minimal and manageable.

If anyone has questions about proton therapy, M.D. Anderson, or anything else...feel free to contact me.

UPDATED

February 2011

Finished proton therapy in October 2010; current PSA 1.20 ng/ml

UPDATED

November 2011

Current PSA 2.2 ng/ml.

UPDATED

March 2015

I was treated at M D Anderson in 2010 with Proton therapy. My PSA's have been below 1 for the past three years. I had a 2.4 three months after treatment but they have all been below 1 for the past 4 years.

UPDATED

May 2016

I did Proton therapy at M D Anderson in 2010, PSA has been below 1 since, minimal side effects. Most of my side effects I would probably have at this age.

UPDATED

April 2017

I had proton therapy at M D Anderson in 2010. My PSA has been in the 0.5 to 0.8 range since.

UPDATED

June 2018

Hi all I was treated M D Anderson with proton therapy in 2010. My last PSA was .062. I have some urgency with my urination but that might just be normal with age.

Feel free to send me an email with any questions.
