THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2019 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.
There is a family history of prostate cancer with three older brothers showing various degrees of cancer present and one having undergone the operation for removal. This made me very aware of checking for myself. Raised PSA was first concern followed by a digital exam by my Doctor.
A very small lump was detected which caused him concern and off to the specialist I was referred. Biopsy performed - the lump was negative but cancer was detected in three other samples in another area of the prostate. I am lucky to have a vigilant family doctor and only have an early showing.
I want to improve diet and fitness while I contemplate the next stage. Leaning towards a laparoscopic procedure. I have the usual concerns for incontinence and ED.
Very positive as to any outcome chosen and hugely supportive wife, family, and friends.
A web search led me to your site and I am grateful to see such meaningful information in one place. I can now stop searching and get on with the job of getting myself well.
Thank you.
Trevor
I have now had time to consider all the options after specialist visits and a good trawl of the internet.
Surgery is my selected choice and robotic would have been my preference. Just not enough experience in this procedure here in New Zealand yet. I am scheduled to have my prostate removed laparoscopically on November 5th and have been fortunate to have been referred to the leading surgeon.
I feel pretty relaxed at this time although friends and family have noticed a mood change. So now just want it all over and done with. I am not going to waste any time or energy being concerned with the side effects such as incontinence or ED and will wait and see and deal with that when and if.
Cheers from me. Trevor
Been a couple of years now since diagnosis and treatment and life is pretty much back to normal. Need to put a bit of extra effort into some of life's pleasures but overall very happy and alive!
Life is pretty much back to normal.
Happy with choices made and fast decision.
No incontinence issues and only minor ED which just means more fun trying!!
Cheers
Nothing much to report since my last update apart from the fact that I am glad there is nothing to report.
Had PSA and full blood tests a couple of weeks back and all good.
Not taking any drugs at all and no aids or drugs for sexual activity - just have to manage a little differently!
Very pleased to contribute to this update and fully recommend the Yana site - been a great help to me in the early stage of my deliberations.
All the very best to anyone who encounters prostate cancer and in your choice of treatment.
My recommendation - just do it.
Been almost 4 years now since treatment and still feeling good with no signs of any problems since the operation and PSA at nil.
As previously stated I recommend intervention and treatment at the earliest possible stage.
All the very best to anyone facing the dilemma of what to do when prostate cancer raises its ugly head!
Feeling good and happy I made a quick decision when diagnosed and the right treatment at the time.
No changes since last update.
No change - fit and healthy.
All the best
