Michael Jenkins and Sue live in Texas, USA. He was 55 when he was diagnosed in March, 2013. His initial PSA was 5.40 ng/ml, his Gleason Score was 7a, and he was staged T2a. His initial treatment choice was Surgery (Robotic Laparoscopic Prostatectomy) and his current treatment choice is None. Here is his story.

THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO AN UPDATE REMINDER IN 2020 SO THERE IS NO UPDATE.

As a physician we are the worst at getting lab testing at appropriate times. I had renal stones and had a PSA checked 3.5. Further increases to 5.4 resulted in 24 biopsy sites. 7 were positive for adenocarcinoma Gleason 3+4 thought to be isolated to the prostate.

I medically investigated all of my options with a very good urologist. The decision was made to undergo robotic prostatectomy. I made this decision to eliminate the cancer completely based on the pathology report. Radiation appeared to have to many complications. At this point I searched US wide for a surgeon with at least 1000 procedures. I was blessed to find Dr. Kella in San Antonio having completed 2000 plus procedures. Great bedside manner and technically fantastic.

I had the procedure April 1st 2013 April fools day. I was in the hospital one day and discharged with a catheter for one week. Two weeks later I was back in my clinic seeing patients. It has been four weeks now with no incontinence and no ED. I know this may not be typical however Dr Kella uses a technique testing the nerves before and after the procedure which provides a great deal of information. I am active walking 3-4 miles per day.

The pathology after the procedure showed the cancer to be isolated in the prostate thank God. I am awaiting my follow up PSA. I found great comfort using this support site and one special individual through my entire journey. If anyone needs information, help, or support please contact me. You are not alone.
